SWIFT is a new technology, developed in the UK, which has been licenced for the general treatment of verrucas and warts in Podiatry. Covering the area from Elgin to Dunfermline, Amy from Amy Maclean Podiatry is the only registered podiatrist with the Swift technology.
In clinic, we have nicknamed the SWIFT machine Taylor (Taylor Swift) and made it part of the family. The machine uses microwave energy which is delivered through a probe applied to the skin. It is a quick treatment, lasting just two seconds before repeating several times to the area as well as on any other verruca on the foot.
Why use SWIFT?
SWIFT is a state of the art treatment used when dealing with stubborn warts and verrucas. Verrucas are viral infections that are caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV) and in many cases, verrucas can cause pain or discomfort when walking or doing exercise.
Some people become quite self conscious of a verruca on their foot and find that it starts to affect their lifestyle or certain hobbies, that they usually enjoy, as to avoid having to expose the foot.
Before getting a SWIFT treatment, most people have usually tried many over-the-counter treatments to get rid of their verruca. Often for quite a few months! These self treatment remedies are high maintenance as they need to be applied regularly and often need a dressing to cover the area.
The advantage to SWIFT is that due to it being non-invasive, there is no need for dressing or fuss, leaving you to get back to daily life without interruption. There is also no after-effect of pain or discomfort, so again very little disruption to your day-to-day activities.Â
What to expect?
With SWIFT, a block of three treatments is recommended for best results. The treatment is performed in the Amy Maclean Podiatry clinic in the Aberdeen Sports Village and they are done one and a half to two weeks apart. In doing so, the body receives a high dose of therapy over a short period, which increases the bodyâs immune response and is crucial in fighting the virus and treating the symptoms associated with the verruca or wart.
What my patients say.
âI had read up on line about SWIFT before coming to see Amy for treatment. The treatment is quick and I donât need to wear different shoes as no padding is needed. After just one session, the pain has gone and I can run with ease.â Female, 35.
âItâs a bit nippy but the verruca is going, well worth the (quick) pain.â Male, 62.
âAfter years of discomfort with a wart on the top of my toe, it is nearly gone and I still have one session left- Iâm delighted!â Male, 25.
